COVID-19 weekly update | Stay informed. Stay healthy.

It’s hard to keep up with the pace of news around the global health emergency that is novel coronavirus 2019 – now known as COVID-19. We have an opportunity to unite in our understanding and response to the presence of COVID-19, to prevent the spread of the virus in South Africa.

We are closely following the situation updates from the National Department of Health and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), where there are currently 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Africa as at 11 March 2020. You can follow the situation updates on our information hub.

To help your employees stay informed and stay healthy, we have developed this COVID-19 weekly update, to share the most up-to-date information and guidance. We hope that you find this to be a valuable resource.

COVID-19: Extended benefits across all health insurance products

Recognising the importance of being prepared for public health emergencies and of giving all our clients access to the most effective cover under all circumstances, Discovery Health has announced the availability of a new benefit that complements existing benefits and extends cover in cases of COVID-19. The WHO Global Outbreak Benefit provides full funding for tests and treatment in confirmed cases of COVID-19 during the period of the outbreak. Read more about how this benefit works.

People who contract coronavirus 2019 may take from one to 14 days to develop symptoms. Your employees should only be tested for particular reasons, and there is a specific process that needs to be followed to undergo the test for COVID-19. Here is what you need to know.
